Clinical Study for the Evaluation of the Shunt Malfunction

Abstract

|
Determination of cerebrospinal fluid shunt patency with three kinds of shunt function tests, datascope test, saline dropping test, shuntgram was performed in 14 cases with suspected malfunction of Accu-Flo ventriculoperitoneal shunt.
The combination of data scope test and saline dropping test was a simple, rapid, reliable and safe technique and useful to find out the nature of malfunctions. Also these tests decreased the number of the total revisions or complete changes of shunting systems, eliminating some unnecessary changes of normally functioning catheter.
